Last-second shot sends Pirates to semifinal loss

A last second three-pointer by guard Tu Holloway propelled Xavier past Seton Hall, 57-52, on Sunday night at the 2010 Paradise Jam.

Holloway led all scorers with 31 points for the Muskeeteers, who will meet Old Dominion for the tournament championship today.

Seton Hall, meanwhile, falls to the 3rd place/5th place game at 7 p.m. tonight vs. Clemson.

The Pirates struggled throughout the contest on offense, its first without senior Jeremy Hazell, who broke his wrist on Friday night.

Senior Jamel Jackson tied the contest in the final minutes with a three-pointer, erasing a 10-point halftime deficit that the Pirates faced.

But Holloway, trapped in the corner and guarded well by senior Keon Lawrence, hit an improbable three to force Xavier in front.

Seton Hall shot a dreadful 21 percent from the field for the first half but finished at 34 percent after a better second half.

Four Pirates scored in double figures: Jeff Robinson (15), Jordan Theodore (11), Fuquan Edwin (11) and Herb Pope (10).
