Men's basketball transfer student, Sterling Gibbs, was denied a hardship waiver by the NCAA to play for the Pirates next season according to a tweet from J.P. Pelzman of the Record.
According to Pelzman, Seton Hall will appeal the waiver.
If the appeal is denied, Gibbs will have to wait until the 2013-14 season to play, the same season Seton Hall commit and ESPN Super 60 recruit, point guard Aquille Carr is scheduled to play for the Pirates.
Gibbs, a New Jersey native, averaged 2.6 points per game as a freshman at Texas last season.
According to an article on nbcsports.com, Gibbs earned First Team All-State honors in his senior season at Seton Hall Prep and is the program's all-time leading scorer.
