The recent revival of MTV's "Beavis and Butt-head" has prompted the network to create a new cartoon that is up to date with our generation's popular topics. The result of these musings is "Good Vibes," MTV's newest cartoon that examines the life of a social outcast and his interactions with the seemingly crazy world around him.
"Good Vibes" centers on the life of Mondo, a teenager who moves from Newark to the coastal California town of Playa del Toro. Unlike the blonde and popular kids of his new town, Mondo is a short pudgy geek who sticks out. Through the aid of his party-girl mom, Babs, and best friend, Woodie, Mondo tries to make a name for himself on the beach and in the classroom through half-baked plans of popularity, which often end with meaningful and hilarious results.
Although "Good Vibes" has only produced two episodes so far, there is still a good chance that the show will prove itself a consistent hit unlike the short lived MTV cartoons of the past such as "Clone High" or "3 South." What was missing from those shows was a great cast and enough publicity to make them last. "Good Vibes" takes care of both of those issues. Many popular actors lend their voices to the show, including Adam Brody, from The OC, Josh Gad, current star of "Book of Mormon" and Danny Mcbride, who is known for his role of Kenny Powers on the hit show "East Bound and Down." The show's primetime spot capitalizes on the large audience already watching it the show that airs before it: "Beavis and Butt-head." If anything, this show is refreshing contrast to the one track humor of the one before it.
"Good Vibes" is on MTV at 10:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
