The New Jersey Undergraduate Greek Leadership Convention was held for the first on Oct. 27, bringing together young leaders from various universities throughout the area for a day of development and collaboration.
“The main goal of the New Jersey Undergraduate Greek Leadership Convention was to foster the community among fraternity and sorority members while engaging in leadership development,” Colleen Dallavalle, assistant director for leadership development, said.
According to Dallavalle, the convention aimed to advance value-based organization and develop leaders.
This convention differed from the annual leadership conference held at Seton Hall in the spring by opening itself to students from all schools in New Jersey, Dallavalle said.
Dallavalle added that the convention targeted fraternity and sorority leadership as well as general members of the organizations in order to increase overall leadership among members.
Students who attended had the opportunity to attend interactive breakout sessions throughout the day that honed in on their particular interests. The sessions were hosted by student leaders, Seton Hall administration and administration from other universities, according to Dallavalle.
“I thought it was great to not only learn new leadership methods from the speakers but to also hear about what students from other schools do,” sophomore Haley Ralph said.
Students took a survey after the convention in order to measure the beneficial aspects of the event, according to Dallavalle.
“I will definitely bring back new ideas to my organization,” Ralph said.
The convention was held in the University Center and Corrigan Hall. It ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Of all the students surveyed at the event, 98 percent said that they would attend this convention again next year if it was offered and 95 percent of students said that this was a valuable experience,” Dallavalle said.
