Stillman ranked as a top undergraduate program

The Stillman School of Business has been “riding a hot streak,” according to Poets & Quants (P&Q), which recently ranked Seton Hall’s business school as one of the top 10 Undergraduate Business Schools to Watch.

Over the past year, the business school has jumped 22 spots from P&Q’s 2018 rating and is now regarded alongside other schools such as Boston College, Emory, University of California – Berkley, Babson, University of Michigan, University of Utah, University of Virginia, Villanova and William and Mary.

P&Q not only rated Stillman as 45th in the nation but also conducted an alumni survey in 2018 that placed Stillman third in overall satisfaction, trailing behind Notre Dame’s Mendoza College. According to Associate Dean Leigh Onimus of the School of Business, these recognitions are what triggered P&Q to notice the significance of Stillman’s accomplishments.

“We work very hard to ensure that we provide challenging academic experiences for students, and we believe that the rankings reflect the alumni satisfaction,” Onimus said. “It is a testament to the great work of the faculty on ensuring student satisfaction and on ensuring that we provide valuable educational experiences.”

Mainly, P&Q refers to Stillman as a “leadership-driven program” and recognizes its Practice Partner program in which faculty members pair up with leading professionals to team-teach core and elective courses, which may have an advantage over other schools.

In response to the recent ranking, sophomore business major Ariel Herrera explained that after reflecting on his own experience, he felt P&Q ranked Stillman appropriately.

“The Stillman School of Business as a whole not only offers its students challenging and rewarding courses but perhaps most important of all are the connections that business students have,” Herrera said. “From Seton Hall alumni to even undergraduate students, the amount of networking and possible connection to be made is jaw-dropping. This allows the Stillman School of Business students to flourish and prosper.”

Herrera also suggested that Stillman could improve with a mentorship program that targets undergraduates with willing companies, entrepreneurs, and more. He admitted that although Stillman has close relations with their alumni, he individually has not had the chance to speak to an alumnus about possible internships and opportunities besides when they appear at an event like the Career Fair.

Concluding her testament about the P&Q rating, Onimus discussed the future agendas of the School of Business. “As an academic unit, we are always focused on continual improvement.” she said. “We are never quite satisfied with the status quo, and so while we’re very proud of the ranking, we continue to work with faculty, students, and alumni. We’re really proud of the recognition, and we appreciate and are very happy with the work that our faculty continues to do so that our students succeed.”
