Women’s cross country shines again at NJIT Invitational

This past weekend, the Seton Hall men’s and women’s cross country teams had successful outings at the NJIT Invitational.

The women’s team dominated the competition, finishing first with a total time of 1:32:44, which was four minutes faster than the second place team, Wagner.

Emma Newgarden won the individual title finishing the 5K race in 18:13. This is Newgarden’s second consecutive individual title, as she won at the Cappy Anderson Invitational on Sept. 22.

Following closely behind Newgarden was Olivia Hernandez, who finished second overall at 18:25. Five more Pirates also finished within the top-10.

Kassi Yocco came in fifth place (18:36), Emily Hernandez came in sixth place (18:37), and Cristina Fernandez finished eighth place (18:53). Gaby Vega (18:59) and Lauren Ginefra (19:05) rounded out the top-10 overall.

On the men’s side, Jarod Moser led the way as the team finished fourth out of seven teams with a combined time of 2:14:00. Moser finished 10th overall with a time of 26:15 in the 8K race.

Justin Allone finished 12th a time of 26:19 and Ryan McNeilly finished 20th with a time of 27:01.

Both teams will return to action on Oct. 12, when they travel to the Bronx, N.Y. to compete in the Metropolitan Championship.
