First baseman Mikael Ali-Mogues, reliever Andrew Politi and shortstop Al Molina will play for the North Division, while reliever Ryan Testani will be with the South Division on Sunday, July 17 when the two teams play atCardines Field in Newport, R.I. Mogues, who currently leads the Vermont Mountaineers in batting average (.330) and hits (32), found out while out to lunch with his family that he had not only made the All-Star team, but the home run derby as well. “It’s right up there as far as my biggest accomplishments,” Mogues said. “I’d never been chosen for an All-Star game before.” Mogues said that his parents are “ecstatic” about the selection and that they are making the trip from Manhattan to Rhode Island for the festivities. Mogues will make the trip to Newport after his Mountaineers finish action this weekend in Montpellier. The first baseman says he is enjoying the “huge change of pace” in Vermont. “Taking the roads to our games and looking out the windows, I’m seeing mountains,” Mogues said. “It’s a lot different than sticking your head out the window and looking at skyscrapers. But it’s cool, it’s really nice.” Fellow Pirate Politi comes into this All-Star game with some impressive marks as well. He leads the league in innings pitched (32.1) and ERA (1.11) for the Winnipesaukee Muskrats. The rising sophomore has been a revelation for the Muskrats, who currently sit third in the Northern Division, four wins ahead of Pirate teammate and fellow All-Star Molina. Molina is the third Pirate to qualify for the Northern Division side, making the Pirates the most well-represented college among the North’s All-Stars. Molina has been playing shortstop for the Upper Valley Nighthawks, batting .261 with 18 hits. Testani will be the lone Pirate on the Southern Division side. The rising senior recovered from two early losses in his summer to rattle off four straight wins, giving him the second-most among all pitchers in the league.
