Faculty members show off their talents
Dancing? Juggling? Puppeteering? Whatever your talent is, it’s going to have to take a seat for the next talent show because Seton Hall faculty is taking over.
The Fifth Annual Faculty Talent Show will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 in the Pirate’s Cove. The show will include more than 15 performers.
Nathaniel Knight, associate professor and chair in the department of history, will be accompanying Jeffrey Gray, professor of English, on guitar and in some Latin jazz piece performances.
“I’ve been playing music since I was a kid,” Knight said. “I was classically trained on piano, taught myself guitar and played in a long string of bands through high school, college and beyond.”
Charles Carter, professor of religious studies courses, will be performing and dedicating his performance to David Bowie.
The first set will include “Black Star” and “Lazarus” from his last album while the second set will include a few of his classic tracks, including “Let’s Dance” and “Space Oddity.”
Carter said he looks forward to enjoying the rest of the show after he performs.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing everyone’s talents on display,” Carter said. “It’s a great time to enjoy one another’s gifts and creativity, in a setting beyond our usual engagement as faculty members.”
Several professors are looking forward to supporting other faculty members while they are on
Aside from an array of talents, the show hopes to help SHU’s Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) to raise donations and funding for a nursing home in El Salvador.
In the past, DOVE has purchased a washing machine and dryer for the nursing home.
Now, DOVE plans to fundraise and purchase some physical therapy or strength training equipment for the home.
Amanda Cavanagh, a sophomore who is directly involved with DOVE’s efforts, said that this will also be contributing to their ultimate goal to create lasting relationships and open people’s minds and hearts to helping others.
