What’s ahead in 2016 for television
A new year of entertainment of T.V. and movies is upon us. This new year will bring a diverse mix of bittersweet endings, exciting beginnings and nostalgic renewals for fans everywhere. Where will we find the time to watch it all? I don’t know, but I do know that it isn’t a bad problem to have.
Here are some of the most highly anticipated premieres of 2016:
- Last season of American Idol
American Idol’s 15th and final season premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 13 on FOX. Stars such as Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert have acquired their fame from this competition. The show will searching for its final superstar and celebrating past seasons and winners.
- American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, FX will debut an anthology series centered around historical criminals. The series will serve as a companion piece to the widely known American Horror Story. It will lead in its first season with a recounting of the 1995 O.J. Simpson trials.
- Grease: Live
FOX will premiere their first live musical on Jan. 31, “Grease: Live.” Following NBC’s “Peter Pan” and “The Wiz”, it will be the first of its sort to be staged in front of a live audience. The highly anticipated cast will be star studded, including Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, Aaron Tveit, Keke Palmer, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Mario Lopez.
- The Oscars hosted by Chris Rock
The Oscars on ABC will maintain its ranking as one of the most anticipated award shows of the year in its 88th year of running to show on Sunday, Feb. 28. After 10 years, Rock will be returning to host with an unorthodox comedic approach for the second time.
- Fuller House
The revival of “Full House” will premiere on Friday, Feb. 26. In this series, D.J. Tanner-Fuller will return as a recently widowed mother of three. Just like in the first show, she will ask for help from her family and friends, Stephanie Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler to raise her sons. The new episodes following the lives of these characters will be available for the first time since 1995.
The highly anticipated (since 2010) superhero blockbuster will premiere in theaters on Feb. 12. The movie will star Ryan Reynolds as the Marvel anti-hero, Deadpool.
- Finding Dory
On June 17, the long-awaited sequel to “Finding Nemo” will be in theaters. Ellen DeGeneres will star as the voice of Dory who will set out on her own journey to find her family.
- Star Trek Beyond
The third installment of the reinvented series will be in theaters starting July 22. This movie will be in celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2016.
- Assassin’s Creed
This sci-fi movie is an adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular gaming series. Although it was originally set to release last August, fans can look forward to its release in theaters on Dec. 21.
