For the third season in a row, Seton Hall men’s basketball games will be broadcasted on AM970 The Answer, with the tag team of Dave Popkin and Gary Cohen calling the action for their 13th straight year together.
Cohen is the play-by-play guy for the New York Mets on SYN and WPIX, and has been for over 25 years.
“Broadcasting Mets games is what I do most and I absolutely love it,” Cohen told the Pirate Sports Network. “But I do not have more fun than when I am calling college basketball.”
After calling St. John’s games from 1995-2002, Cohen made the move to South Orange.
“Being the voice of Seton hall has been amazing for me,” he told the PSN. “This place has been great to me since the start.”
In addition to his work covering the Pirates, Popkin has put in 16 years with the Northeast Conference as a play-by-play announcer.
At least three games will be aired on WMCA 570AM: Dec. 30 at Marquette, Jan. 23 at Xavier and Feb. 17 at Georgetown. These games are already set in stone due to conflicts at The Answer.
Seton Hall’s Jan. 9 home game against Creighton and March 5 road contest at DePaul have yet to be officially scheduled, so they could wind up on either station.
All of SHU’s 30 regular-season games, as well as the Big East Championship contests, will be heard on the radio and also on the Pirates Sports Network through a subscription.
Last weekend, the Blue and White defeated Baruch College in an exhibition. The feisty Division III school lit it up from three-point land, but Isaiah Whitehead’s 40-point out- burst carried Seton Hall to a 84-79 victory.
Looking ahead, the Pirates will open up against Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. and then host Wagner two days later at 1:30 p.m.
Both games can be heard on The Answer.
