SHIPS are sailing for student rewards

When most college students hear that something is free, they become excited and are willing do almost anything to get that item.

That’s why the app, S.H.I.P.S, was created.

It allows SHU students to check-in to sporting events to receive points which are redeemable for free gifts.

S.H.I.P.S stands for Seton Hall Interactive Point System. According to the Seton Hall website, the free app is meant to reward students with prizes, food discounts and more.

The more points a student accumulates the more prizes a student can receive.

This semester, the gifts include a phone ID holder, sunglasses, winter beanie, SHU hamper, SHU scarf, SHU socks and an Under Armour t-shirt and hoodie.

According to the apps information courtesy section, to receive these prizes, students must accumulate points which can range from 6 to 140.

Usually, each sporting event is worth two points, which allows students to increase their number of points easily if they attend multiple games.

There are also bonus points events to make the sporting events worth more than two points.

“All you have to do is simply check into the games,” said Laura Way, a sophomore marketing major. “The points add up quicker than you think they would and the prizes are pretty cool.”

The app provides a variety of information, including the date and time of all of the sporting events, rosters for the teams, polls and additional information.

“It lets me have easy access to all of the sports schedules. I can quickly pull up the app to find out if there’s a game I can go watch in order to support one of our teams,” Brian Ferraro, a sophomore criminal justice major, said.

“I like the fact that you can check into the events just by using your phone, and that checking in earns you rewards so it’s like getting something back for coming out to support the teams.” he added.
