Seton Hall suffered a loss in 10 innings, 3-1, to the Monmouth Hawks on Tuesday. A bright spot for the Pirates was the hitting of senior infielder Kyle Grimm, who went three for four including an RBI-single in the third inning for the blue and white’s only score of the game. Grimm also had a ground-rule double and another single.
The starting pitcher for the Pirates was sophomore left-hander Anthony Pacillo who earned the no decision. Pacillo had a solid outing, pitching eight innings and giving up only one run on seven hits. Also, Pacillo had four strikeouts and walked only one batter. Pacillo was in a jam in the fourth inning which could have resulted in more than one run scoring, but kept calm and got out of the inning.
Another Pirate who was hitting well was junior outfielder Derek Jenkins who went two for four and scored the Pirates only run. Jenkins had a chance to bring in more runs for the Pirates in the fourth inning where the bases were loaded, but Jenkins grounded out to a double play.
Sophomore designated hitter Mikael-Ali Mouges was hot early with two hits in his first two at-bats, but started lost steam as he struck out in his next three at-bats.
Sophomore infielder Joe Poduslenko went one for four including a walk and also a stolen base. Poduslenko would have had another hit, but there was an error by the Hawks.
Junior right-hander Luke Cahill came in relief of Pacillo giving up zero runs in one and a third innings pitched with one strikeout. The next reliever for the blue and white was sophomore Joe DiBehedetto. The left-hander didn’t fair too well giving up the final two runs in two-thirds innings pitched.
On the other side, the starter for the Hawks was freshman Matt Littrell. Littrell pitched six innings while giving up only one run on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Senior Adam Yunginger brought in the tying run in the fourth inning. Senior catcher Kyle Perry hit a sac fly while the bases were loaded to bring in the go-ahead run in the tenth. Then junior outfielder Dan Shea added to the score with an RBI single.
The Pirates will look to get back on track when they host Butler this weekend in a three-game series. First game is set to start Friday, 6 p.m.
