Due to a decision made by the South Orange Board of Trustees on Sept. 8, parking on Ward Place was discontinued on Oct. 6.
The announcement was sent to the Seton Hall community via email on Oct. 1. The email also stated that violators of this rule “will be subject to summonses from the Village of South Orange.”
Ward Place spaces were first offered to students by the Village when parking was sparse due to the construction of the deck last academic year, according to South Orange Village President Alex Torpey. “It was never allowed, [but] we made a few exceptions, starting at the beginning of the semester last year to allow it to help with overflow parking while the new deck was being constructed,” Torpey said in an email.
According to Torpey, the South Orange Board of Trustees made the decision to discontinue parking on Ward Place at the Sept. 8 meeting. While Torpey suggested keeping these parking spaces available to students for two hours a day, the Board voted unanimously to restore the parking ban.
The University did not object to this change, according to Torpey.
“Seton Hall officials were perfectly content, as they have plenty of parking on campus,” Torpey said.
“They expressed appreciation for us helping out when they needed it.”
