ABC Family launches two addictive shows for summer

While "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" may have ended, the drama is just getting started on ABC Family. The network specializing in teen soaps is starting the summer off right with the recent series premieres of two shows packed with intriguing characters, storylines and mysteries. Be forewarned, though - "The Fosters" and "Twisted" are highly addictive. "The Fosters," which is produced by Jennifer Lopez, centers 16-year-old Callie as she adjusts to life in her new foster home. Life so far has been difficult for her, having been wrongly sent to juvenile hall and physically abused by her father. But after being taken in by Stef Foster and Lena Adams and bonding with her foster siblings, Callie might finally see the end of her hardships. Blending a heartfelt story with the conflicts of high school, "The Fosters" shows how a loving and supportive family can make all the difference in a child's life. In the same vein as Callie, Danny Desai of "Twisted" is also a social outcast, stigmatized by his peers after he murdered his aunt when he was 11. After being released from prison he tries to reconnect with his old friends, only to end up the prime suspect in yet another murder. Now Danny must clear his name while also struggling to maintain a normal life. With plenty of twists in store, "Twisted" is sure to keep viewers guessing... and tuning in. "The Fosters" and "Twisted" are both very different shows. Yet their interesting plots and relatable characters are likely to make fans out of anyone who enjoys fellow ABC Family series "The Lying Game" and "Pretty Little Liars." With shows this good, it's not hard to imagine people throwing their summer plans out the window just to watch them. 5 out of 5 doubloons Amanda Boyer can be reached at amanda.boyer@student.shu.edu.
