Joining the E! Network's numerous reality show favorites including "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and "Married to Jonas" is "Chasing the Saturdays," a new series about British girl band The Saturdays.
Premiering in two parts on Sunday and Monday at 10 p.m., the show follows Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White as they try to break into stardom in the United States. Upon arrival in America, part one showed the girls dealing with homesickness, jet lag and big changes in their personal lives all while they prepare to perform at their very first U.S. concert, which just so happens to be at a MTV Video Music Awards after party.
Despite their success in Britain as one of the top girl groups of all time, the episode showed that The Saturdays still get nervous before any big performance. As Mollie stated, once they hit the stage and got into "performance mode" everything went smoothly.
In the second installment of the premiere, the girls shot a music video for their US single, "What About Us" in the midst of a Los Angeles heat wave. Vanessa, the youngest of the group, not only has to deal with the heat but also relationship problems that weigh heavily on her ability to focus. Although the final product makes the task look incredibly simple, it is a nice change of pace to see the hard work and time commitment that actually goes into filming a very short video.
Like any quintessential E! reality series, there was drama - about closet size and couch comfort, that is - as well as some tears as the girls faced the reality of Frankie's ongoing battle with depression. Although there were no life-changing elements of the premiere, "Chasing the Saturdays" did provide entertainment that was hard to look away from.
