Students: Take advantage of the programs SHU offers
As much as I like the little things about Seton Hall, such as the nice landscaping and the cute little town of South Orange that surrounds it, the real reason why I am here is because of the great programs and opportunities Seton Hall provides for me.
I think about all of the ways in which students can get more involved on campus, that eventually will look great on a resume, and they do not take advantage of them. I am a journalism major, therefore I want to write for a newspaper, hence why I joined The Setonian.
I mean, that is why I am here, right? If you have declared a certain major, you should love that major and want to get involved in any program that pertains to it.
I love journalism and cannot wait to graduate and actually start my career as a reporter. The Setonian is training me for the next stage in my life: the real world. I have learned so much more on the staff and editorial board of The Setonian than I have in any class. It is real experience. If I did not want to write for the paper, then what would be the point of studying journalism?
Or, let’s say I wanted to pursue broadcast journalism; I would join WSOU or PirateTV. There are so many different opportunities for every major and every student should be taking advantage of everything they possibly can.
It just pains me to see students who have real potential in their field of study and they just waste it by not utilizing it.
If you are a political science major, join SGA.
If you are a public relations major, join the PRSSA.
If you are planning on going to Law School, join Mock Trial.
There are plenty of organizations for every student’s interest. Just get involved in something because you will regret the easily missed opportunity later in life when you are searching for a job.
