WSOU hosts 12-hour radiothon to help Hurricane Sandy relief efforts

89.5 FM WSOU will host a radiothon on Nov. 30 from 6 a.m. to midnight collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy relief.

"Our goal is to raise $8,950 by the end of the day," said Erin O'Grady, WSOU programming director.

DJs will spin regular rotation music while taking breaks during their shifts to ask for donations.

Listeners can call the radio station and "pledge" money. Depending on the amount given, WSOU will give out prize packs. For $25 prize packs include, WSOU stickers, pens, bottle openers and a CD. Special Hurricane Sandy relief t-shirt's will be given with the prize pack if listeners pledge more than $50 and if the donation is more than $100, that person will receive a WSOU sweatshirt, the relief t-shirt and the prize pack.

Raffle tickets will also be available for separate purchase at the price of $25. Prizes being raffled are a signed Slipknot poster, 3 Inches of Blood snowboard and a framed drumhead signed by all members of Five Finger Death Punch. Along with those possible prizes, a number of other signed pieces of memorabilia will be given away.

"We will have a slew of guest DJs and interview from band members and people in the music industry throughout the day as well," O'Grady said.

WSOU's radiothon is being picked up by various metal blogs and websites. Allaccess.com has also written an article on their relief efforts.
