Class registration for spring delayed

The starting date for undergraduate registration for spring 2013 courses has been pushed back to Nov. 8. Students interviewed were unaware of this change and said they have not heard when registration will take place.

Registration will continue until Nov. 20 and resume after Thanksgiving allowing students to register from Monday, Nov. 26 through Thursday, Nov. 29.

According to the director of enrollment services, Mary Ellen Farrell, the date for registration has only been pushed back one week.

"The date had to be pushed back to ensure departments had enough time to make necessary accommodations for the large freshman class," she said. "Realignment of course structure needed to take place."

Farrell added that the size of the class required a great deal of planning for there to be space for all students in their respective majors.

"It was a wise investment of time to give them the structure needed," she said. "The chairs did a good job."

Students expressed concern about not knowing when registration begins.

"I had no idea registration had been pushed back," sophomore Ashley Prast said. "I thought it started (the week of Oct. 29)." Sophomore Regan Newcomb added that she had not heard or seen anything about the change of registration dates.

"Now that I'm not a freshman (enrolled in the University Life Class), I have no clue what is going on, " she said.

Newcomb and other students also noted the schedule for class next semester has yet to be posted online.

According to Farrell, that information has been sent to the web team in order to be posted on faculty registration pages.

She also added that exam week schedules for the end of the Fall 2012 semester will be posted shortly.
