Men’s cross country finished second
The men’s cross country team finished second, while the women’s team finished third this weekend at the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic.
In the team’s fourth meet of the season, expectations were raised in hopes of another high finish in the standings. Both teams have had a solid start to the season thus far, and even the hot Florida sun proved to be no match for the Pirates.
For the men, senior Jared Hanko led the way. Hanko posted a 27:37.69 time in the 8k run, good enough for a fifth place finish. Finishing next for the Pirates was junior Carl Johnston, who crossed the line with a 28:34.20 mark.
Once again, Hanko and Johnston finished consecutively for the Pirates, something they have accomplished in every meet.
Freshmen Jacob Bast and Ryan Flannery also finished in the top 20 of the meet. Flannery clocked in at 28:51.13 to take 16th place and Bast finished hundredths of a second later, placing 17th in a time of 28:51.57.
Coach John Moon said that “the two (freshmen) are really stepping it up.”
For the women’s team, senior Hughnique Rolle led all of Seton Hall’s women racers, posting a19:47.08 time in the women’s 5k race, finishing in fifth place
Junior Nyala Eddings kept her breakout season going with an eighth place finish. This finish marks her second top-ten and fourth top-twenty finish of 2012. Eddings recorded a 20:05.81 time to rank second on the squad for the second straight week.
“My goal for my girls is to try to get the whole team under twenty-one (minutes) and to try to get the guys under twenty-eight minutes,” Moon said. “And so far, we are close to that.”
Both squads have a week off before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 5 at the 2012 Metropolitan Championships. The meet will be held at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y. the same site as the 2012 BIG EAST Championships.
