Men’s basketball announces 2012-2013 non-conference schedule

The men’s basketball team announced its 2012-13 non-conference schedule on Thursday.

The Pirates will play 13 games against non-conference teams, eight of which the team will play at home, including the season opener at Walsh Gym.

“We think this is a challenging schedule that will well-prepare us for when the BIG EAST games start after the holidays,” said Head Coach Kevin Willard. “We’re happy to be able to play 17 games in our building this year in front of our loyal fan base.”

To start the season as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, the Pirates will face University of Missouri at Kansas City on Friday, Nov. 9 in Walsh Gym in the first regular season game at Walsh since a 97-87 win over Norfolk State.

In the first game at the Prudential Center in 2012 the Pirates will play Norfolk State at the Prudential Center on Monday, Nov. 12.

The Pirates will then head to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut to continue the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament against Washington on Saturday, Nov. 17 and then play either Ohio State or Rhode Island on Sunday, Nov. 18.

In the non-conference schedule the Pirates will have five rematches from last season against Saint Peter’s on Sunday Nov. 25; NJIT on Tuesday Dec. 4; at Wake Forest on Saturday, Dec. 8; Longwood on Wednesday, Dec. 19; and first-round opponent of the 2012 NIT, Stony Brook on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Pirates won all five games against the above opponents.

The Pirates will play at LSU on Thursday, Nov. 29 to take part in the SEC/Big East Challenge. The Pirates are 1-1 in the event with a loss to Arkansas in 2012 and a victory over Auburn last season.

The Pirates will also play at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, Dec. 22 against Long Island University.

Game times, television and radio information, and Big East Conference opponent information will be announced at a later time.
