Since day one at Seton Hall, the one thing we learned is to be mindful of everything that’s been given to us, and to pay it forward. The countless hours of community service that we did freshman year and beyond instilled that in us.
When we walk out of these gates for the last time, we join a laundry list of alumni, from ESPN host Bob Ley to Bill Raftery, who did not get to where they are without a former Setonian helping them along the way.
For me, that former Pirate is 1974 graduate Mike Adamski. Without our constant discussions during my junior and senior years of high school, I would not be here. I also can’t forget to thank my family for supporting me through the best and worst times of these last four years. I am forever grateful to them for putting up with my crazy travel schedule at WSOU and The Setonian.
Amy Nyberg, adviser to The Setonian and WSOU’s Mark Maben deserve more than just a line in this column. They pushed me to be the best that I could be both in and out of the classroom. Without their help, I wouldn’t be on my way to a professional career in sports broadcasting with the Evansville Otters. I will savor the memories of Wednesday nights with The Setonian and broadcasting trips with WSOU for as long as I am alive.
Additionally, the brother-like relationships I formed with my roommates from this year and last definitely can’t go unnoticed. From Thursday nights at Cryan’s, to endless arguments about the Pirates, without their company these last two years, I don’t know what I would have done.
Now, as we prepare for life after college, don’t forget about your times here at the Hall. Mine has been pretty good, and I’m sure yours was the same, if not better. As former alumni have done in years past, its now our turn to step up and advocate for future Setonians.
As our alma mater states, “O sing her praise to highest skies, and be ye faithful in her eyes, for she will foster all your dreams, her name is Seton Hall.”
I know my dreams have come true, so let’s help others fulfill theirs as well.
