Registration begins for Seton Hall Tedx conference

The third annual TEDx event will take place on April 21 and is open to all faculty and students.

The conference is named TED, because it aims to bring together individuals from the worlds of technology, entertainment, and design, according to Daria Preston. The x stands for independent.

TEDx has taken place for the past three years at Seton Hall, but this year will be the most stimulating yet, according to Preston.

“Expect this to be probably the most exciting conference that we have put on in the past three years,” Preston said. “We have some very high caliber speakers attending, including big name attendees who have spoken at other conferences.”

Attendees can expect a full day filled with speakers at the event, according to Kelsey Coolidge, chair of the event.

“It will be a daylong conference with a series of guest speakers and videos from TED.com,” Coolidge said. “Attendees are encouraged to interact with speakers and ask questions during our conference breaks and lunch.”

The group of speakers this year is the most diverse yet, incorporating speakers from many different fields, according to Cassie Denbow chair of the speaker committee.

“Everyone from a musical group, to an astrophysicist in training, to the CEO of one of the fastest growing companies in the country,” Denbow said.

Denbow and the TEDx committee said she hopes the diversity of speakers attracts students from a wide range of academic backgrounds.

“Our goal is to provoke thought and discussion,” Denbow said. “We want students to come away from TEDxSetonHall refreshed about learning and thinking.”

TEDx is a localized TED conference. TED, a nonprofit organization which began in 1984, is devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading,” according to Daria Preston.

Official TED conferences are held throughout the world, in places like Palm Springs, and Scotland.

“Thanks to TEDx, us group of students has been working hard every year for the past three to stimulate our communities, organizations, and individuals in the creation of dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level,” Preston said.

The hope for TEDxSeton Hall is that it continues to grow and increase student interest in the conference, according to Preston.

“I am positive that the TEDxSetonHall team next year will continue to surpass expectations and previous year’s achievements,” Preston said.

TEDxSeton Hall was started three years ago by a small group of students and avid TED fans, according to Coolidge.

The conference will take place this year from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Applications can be accessed through the website, tedxsetonhall.us.

Registration for the program begins April 2.
