West Virginia to join Big 12
The shakeup of the Big East conference continues, as West Virginia will accept a bid to join the Big 12.
The move by the Mountaineers will only come if Missouri decides to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, which is close to being done.
West Virginia leaving creates even more uncertainty around the future of the Big East conference with Pittsburgh and Syracuse already set to move to the ACC starting in the 2013-14 school year.
TCU was also set to join the Big East next year but left that commitment to join the Big 12 before they played a Big East contest.
This latest departure will leave the Big East with 15 member schools for basketball but will drop the conference to five football schools, under the limit allowed by the NCAA.
It has been reported earlier that the conference was looking to add more schools for football only to keep the conference going, but no additions have been made yet.
