In her new single, "Born this Way", Lady Gaga makes sure everyone knows she does not care what society has to say about her because she was "born this way."To most, Gaga is more than just a superstar or some crazy celebrity with a unique style, she is a statement and this song exemplifies that.
As the song starts it sounds just like any other average club song, but when the words begin to flow through the beat you realize that it is much more. It is more than just upbeat, it is uplifting. In this song she is not just speaking to one person; she is speaking to the world.
But what is the real reason she felt the need to make a song so upbeat and uplifting? It makes the listener wonder: is Lady Gaga uncomfortable in her own skin? Although, the song may be trying to send the message that everyone should love themselves for who they are and not care about what others think of them, it seems that Gaga is trying to convince herself to not care what others may think about her.
In the song she suggests that just being you is what really matters. Lady Gaga sings, "Whether you're broke or evergreen, you're black, white, beige, chola descent, you're Lebanese, you're orient. Whether life's disabilities left you outcast, bullied or teased. Rejoice and love yourself today, cause baby, you were born this way."
Whether she made this song because of her own self image issues or because she wants everyone to know that they are special no matter who they are or what they look like the song is still an inspiration and a statement.
Most of Gaga's songs are about wanting to be famous or sex; this is just about plain self love. She is more than just a celebrity, she is an inspiration and this song is special because the words are more than just something to listen to, but something to live by.
The beat was a bit much and not something one would expect when listening to an inspirational song, but of course this is Gaga we are talking about and she never does anything by the book.
This is just one single from her new album that will be coming out in May and hopefully more of her songs will be as moving and motivating as this one is. Nonetheless, Gaga is always full of surprises; one can never expect anything less from a woman like her.
