As college students, we don't always have the money for things like Broadway shows. Tickets can cost an exorbitant amount of money and many people don't know how to get discounted tickets.
Broadwaybox.com lists discount codes for many shows both on and off Broadway and can be used to buy tickets ahead of time online.
Cheap tickets are also available the day of the performance. Broadway offers rush, lottery, and standing-room-only policies for low-priced tickets. Rush tickets can be purchased at the box office with your student ID. Lotteries are drawings held about two hours prior to the performance. Standing-room-only tickets are inexpensive, but you have to stand for the show. The TKTS booth located in Time Square also offers reduced tickets for same-day performances.
Unfortunately, when using some of these methods, there is not always a guarantee and tickets can depend on availability. Also, the seats are not always the greatest.
Each show has its own policies for rush and lottery, so make sure to check online in advance.
If you are willing to stand in line or get to the box office early, it can pay off. You get to experience Broadway and save money.
