Former student robbed at gunpoint near campus

A former Seton Hall student was robbed at gunpoint at around 1:45 a.m., Sept. 25, about one block from the University's campus, according to a broadcast e-mail.

The woman was walking alone near the intersection of Fairview Terrace and Gardner Ave., the broadcast said.

There is no connection between this incident and the shooting in East Orange involving three Seton Hall students, according to a University official.

According to the e-mail, the victim told South Orange police that the suspect was a male and acted alone. He was wearing a black ski mask and blue jeans. She also told police that he jumped out of the bushes at her, placed "what she believed to be a handgun to her head" and demanded valuables.

The victim told police she surrendered money and credit cards to the suspect before he ran south on foot towards Irvington Ave., according to the broadcast.

The e-mail said the victim reported the crime to the South Orange police. The suspect has not been apprehended, and the victim was not injured.
