More interim changes at the Hall

UPDATE: 7/23/10 The Setonian speaks with Dr. Guetti

Dr. Joan Guetti has been named Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as announced today by the Office of the Provost.

Guetti will assume the role as interim dean on Monday. The message from the Office of the Provost also states that Guetti has "advised she will not be a candidate for the permanent position."

Guetti, an associate professor of mathematics and computer science, was an associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1997 to 2003.

"My primary goals are to lead the College by supporting and implementing the University's Strategic Plan, and to be a strong advocate for the College both within the campus community as well as our external constituencies," said Guetti in an e-mail. "I hope to communicate and promote the academic excellence of the College's faculty and students and celebrate our achievements."

Guetti said she plans on returning to her "first love – teaching" when her interim term is over, but she is dedicated to her new role in the university community.

"I hope to be here as long as it takes to find a new dean who will be expected to demonstrate the talents and energy necessary to lead a diverse and vibrant College of Arts and Sciences," Guetti said.

Also announced on Thursday was the appointment of Kathleen Boozang as Interim Vice Provost. Her new position will begin August 1.

Boozang has been a part of the Seton Hall Law faculty since 1990 and was Associate Dean for Academics at the school from 2000 to 2008, according to the message from the Office of the Provost.

The moves increase the number of interim administrators at the university, starting with Dr. Gabriel Esteban as Interim University President. Dr. Larry Robinson will be serving as Interim Provost during Esteban's tenure as president, which was announced on June 16.

A year ago, Esteban served as the university's Provost with Robinson as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.

Additionally, Dr. Joyce Strawser has already taken over as Acting Dean of the Stillman School of Business, after the resignation of Dean Karen Boroff on June 30.
