The video game industry has enjoyed a surge of excellent video game sequels for many of their smash hits. The recent release of “Bioshock 2” proves that great games can have a sequel that improves upon the original. Out of all the games, though, there are five that really stand out as the best video game sequels of all time: “Resident Evil 4,” “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” “Mario Kart Wii,” “God of War II” and “Super Mario Bros.” for the Nintendo DS.
Resident Evil 4
“Resident Evil,” from Capcom, was one of the first true horror video games. What made “Resident Evil” special is that it actually made gamers feel like they were in a scary movie. PlayStation 2’s “Resident Evil 4” improved on that and made it more fun for everyone playing and watching; even for those who were freaked out.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The “Call of Duty” series revolutionized the first-person shooter when the first game hit stores in 2007. “Call of Duty” took a simple system and made it better. With the release of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” two years later, the company improved everything, creating an authentic and modern gaming experience.
Mario Kart Wii
The original “Mario Kart” on Nintendo 64 let four people play at once to see who was the best at racing. “Mario Kart Wii” lets you do that as well, but with a much larger scope. With the Wii network, the game allows you to not only see who is the best racer among your friends, but among racers from around the world.
God of War II & Super Mario Bros.
‘God of War II” and “Super Mario Bros.” are great video game sequels because they did not need to change anything. Staying true to the adage “If ain’t broken, don’t fix it,” both games in their respective series, have become the standard for future games in those genres.
