Sheppard comments on pro Pirates

The Setonian caught up with Pirates baseball coach Rob Sheppard to talk about the trio of players from the Hall's 2009 team that have entered Major League Baseball.

On pitcher Sean Black:
"We are very proud of Sean and his accomplishment of being drafted in the seventh round. He came out of a high school a very talented pitcher, and used college baseball to polish his mechanics which has paid dividends for his career. His work ethic he showed at Seton Hall will help him as he continues in professional baseball."

On Black, pitcher Keith Cantwell, and designated hitter Chris Affinito:
"It is great to see three well-deserving players such as Sean, Keith, and Chris continue their baseball careers at the professional level. They showed a tremendous work ethic and dedication to the game and to Seton Hall athletics, and it is that work ethic that will help them move along the professional ranks."

Black recently joined the Staten Island Yankees after being drafted by the New York franchise in June. He picked up a win in his first career minor league start in mid July.
Cantwell, meanwhile, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the draft. Affinito signed post-draft with the Oakland Athletics.

Sports Editor Timothy LeCras and Assistant Sports Editor Nicholas Parco compiled this report through Seton Hall Athletic Communications. They can be reached, respectively, at timothy.lecras@student.shu.edu and nicholas.parco@student.shu.edu.
